About the Job:
The RN Scheduler is responsible for scheduling and optimizing all procedures performed in cardiovascular services' invasive suites. The role ensures patients are clinically prepared, appropriately scheduled, and supported throughout the pre-procedure and post-procedure continuum. The RN serves as the central liaison between cardiologists, interventionalists, electrophysiologists, anesthesia, inpatient units, outpatient practice, and procedural staff to reduce delays, prevent cancellations, and improve throughput. The position is designed to improve throughput, readiness, and patient experience, not to manage staffing, budget, or in[1]room procedural support.
What You’ll Do:
- Coordinate and schedule cardiac catheterizations, PCI, EP studies, ablations, cardioversions, TEEs, and structural heart procedures.
- Prioritize and sequence cases based on clinical urgency, anesthesia needs, and resource availability.
- Communicate daily with Cath Lab leadership (charge RN, lead technologist), APRN, cardiologists, electrophysiologists, anesthesia regarding case flow and readiness.
- Ensure vendor coordination for EP and structural heart cases.
- Review all referrals for completeness and clinical appropriateness.
- Verify required labs, imaging, medication holds, anticoagulation plans, and device interrogations.
- Identify and resolve readiness gaps to prevent day-of-procedure delays.
- Provide individualized pre-procedure instructions to patients and families.
- Coordinate contrast allergy protocols, renal protection plans, and other special considerations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients throughout the pre-procedure and early post-procedure period
- Provide education regarding procedure expectations, preparation, and follow-up.
- Coordinate post-procedure appointments, imaging, and follow-up testing.
- Facilitate communication between inpatient teams, outpatient clinics, and procedural staff.
- Monitor daily case flow and identify barriers to efficiency.
- Collaborate with charge RNs to ensure smooth transitions between cases.
- Track and analyze delay and cancellation reasons; implement corrective workflows.
- Standardize readiness checklists and communication pathways.
- Support data collection for national registries for: Cardiac Cath lab interventional and diagnostic studies, electrophysiology procedures, and structural heart procedures
- Participate in case reviews, quality initiatives, and process improvement projects.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and internal policies.
- Promote safe, patient-centered care across all procedural areas.
- Strong understanding of cardiac diagnostics, invasive cardiology workflows, and pre-procedure optimization.
- Ability to navigate through Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Ability to utilize program software specific to cardiovascular data management.
- Excellent communication, organization, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and provider groups
Who You Are:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- New Hampshire Registered Nurse or Compact State Registered Nurse License.
- BLS required with the ability to obtain ACLS during the orientation period and maintain during employment.
- Two (2) to three (3) years cardiac experience (Cath lab, critical care)
- Strong understanding of cardiac diagnostics, invasive cardiology workflows, and pre-procedure optimization
- Intermediate level of navigation of Epic, Excel, and Word. Ability to advance basic computer skills as the health system adds new systems or performs upgrades to existing systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively amongst providers, staff, and patients.
- Experience with scheduling systems, EMR workflows, and care coordination preferred.
