Position Summary:

The Laboratory Aide performs various non-technical and limited technical functions in the laboratory which allows the timely flow of all specimens through the lab departments.  The Laboratory Aide maintains the integrity of samples from receipt to storage and performs specific departmental tasks as assigned by the technical supervisor.

What You'll Do

  • Receives specimens into the laboratory-verifying patient demographics, verifying specimen types, maintaining expected TATs, maintaining specimen integrity, performing validation of orders, and recognizing problems and discrepancies.
  • Performs centrifugation of specimens and aliquots all necessary specimens for accurate delivery to laboratory departments.
  • Performs final disposition of specimen to storage via standard tube tracking procedures.
  • Performs add-on requests and delivers to laboratory departments.
  • Provides patient testing results and/or test requirements as appropriate.
  • Answers incoming phone calls, provides patient testing results and/or test requirements as appropriate and refers technical questions to technical staff.
  • Performs other related duties as allowed for the operation of the department and laboratory.

Microbiology only:

  • Performs maintenance of analyzers, general quality control, stock, and inventory tasks, aliquoting reagents and routine maintenance of quality control organisms.
  • Performs, documents, and reports all CLIA waived testing and/or non-waived moderate complexity testing accurately.
  • Performs microbiology tasks to include, planting bacterial and fungal cultures, gram staining and loading of blood culture analyzer, EIA rapid tests and PCR specimen set-up for analysis.
  • Performs MicroScan prompt to plate inoculation and preliminary positive blood culture set up.

What You Need

Associate’s degree in science, or two (2) plus years equivalent related experience, or is currently enrolled in an accredited Medical Lab Science program with two (2) years completed.


Work Schedule: Per Diem variable, first and second shift, including weekends and holidays
