Director of Respiratory Care - Full Time
Manchester, New Hampshire
The Director of Respiratory Care provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for all respiratory care services across the organization, including our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Level II Trauma, and Critical Care respiratory programs. Reporting to the Vice President of Patient Care Services, this role ensures high‑quality patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and evidence‑based practice in all inpatient and outpatient respiratory care areas.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to support integrated, system wide respiratory care operations
- Direct daily operations of the Respiratory Care Department, including staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and performance standards.
- Lead strategic planning initiatives to enhance respiratory care services and support organizational goals.
NICU -Respiratory Care Leadership
- Provide clinical and administrative oversight of all NICU respiratory care services, advanced neonatal ventilator management support, including conventional ventilation as well as high‑frequency oscillator ventilation (HFOV) and high‑frequency jet ventilation (HFJV), CPAP, HFNC, surfactant administration support, and neonatal resuscitation protocols.
- Collaborate closely with neonatologists, NICU nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize neonatal respiratory outcomes.
Clinical Excellence
- Maintain expert level knowledge of respiratory care practices across adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations.
- Support bedside clinical problem-solving and serve as a resource for complex cases.
- Oversee evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies, equipment, and therapeutic modalities.
Staff Development & Education
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate respiratory therapists, supervisors, and educators.
- Coordinate continuing education, competency assessments, and professional development programs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence.
Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
- Monitor clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and departmental performance metrics.
- Lead quality improvement projects and ensure adherence to evidence-based practice.
- Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and promote a safe care environment.
Position Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy, healthcare administration or related field. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential, New Hampshire state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP required. Healthcare management certification and National Board of Respiratory Care specialty credentials preferred.
