About the Job:
As the Team Lead to Transport and Linen Services, this position will monitor and report to the department manager on the daily operations of the following areas: Patient Transportation, Courier services, Linen Services, furniture moves which includes the co-ordination of staff, vehicles or outside vendors, delivery and pickup of linen and specialty items to facility wide areas.
What You’ll Do:
Transport
- Monitors daily operations of Patient Transportation, Courier services and move requests provided at Elliot Hospital.
- Coordinates the daily assignment schedules for Patient Transportation, Courier and moves, transportation needs for first and second shift, weekends, and holidays. Review with Manager to adjust schedule based on workload, staffing, census, weather, and other variables.
- Reviews with manager and dispatches all incoming requests for moves and Courier services while determining priorities and staffing assignments.
- Monitors status and maximizes availability of department vehicles. Ensures repairs and regular maintenance are tracked; down time and service impact is minimized.
- Monitors and deploys Patient Transport equipment and completes tracking and documentation for preventative maintenance and repair activities.
- Works with department manager in conducting departmental training, orientation, and in services. Completes associated documentation. Assists in developing pertinent training and orientation programs as needed.
- Assists Manager in hiring, performance appraisals, payroll functions and employee relations as needed.
- Reviews and maintains department training manual which includes policies and procedures.
- Maintains a high level of staff morale and productivity.
- Trains temporary help, relief, new hires and incumbent staff on existing or updated processes and procedures as directed.
- Assists Manager with departmental goals including but not limited to team building, quality-oriented service improvements and general staff moral improvements.
- Maintains good working relationships with staff, user departments and peers. Maintains positive teamwork and working relationships with employees and clients.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities listed in the Patient Transporter and Courier job descriptions as needed.
- Ensures confidentiality of employee, physician and legal matters; respects and maintains patient rights and confidentiality at all times.
- Utilizes complete knowledge of portable oxygen usage and safety for transport of patients.
Linen
- Monitors daily linen workflow to meet established schedules for soiled linen pickup and clean linen restocking and adjusts to meet change in usage or demands.
- Prioritizes and communicates workloads for all shifts including daytime, evening and weekend shifts.
- Maintains linen usage and tracking logs and other departmental records as directed. Records daily receipt and issue transactions to maintain perpetual inventory balances. Performs periodic inventory of linen off-site warehouse and maintains condition of stock.
- Responds to linen requests and maintains department protocol. Delivers linens and linen items to facility-wide areas within established linen exchange cart system. Records linen weights delivered to facility-wide areas and soiled linen weights for pick-up by contract laundry service.
- Sorts, inspects and folds linens and specialty linen items received daily from the hospitals contracted laundry service. Restocks linen exchange carts and assigned linen storage areas. Marks new linens and linen items for identification.
- Drives hospital vehicle for linen delivery between the warehouse, Elliot Hospital and other areas as required. Keeps the vehicle clean, reports items requiring repair or replacement, maintains fuel/fluid levels and immediately reports any/all damage to vehicle. Keeps vehicle locked while unattended, never leaves keys in vehicle. Maintains good driving record, obeys traffic regulations and drives defensively.
- Ensures vehicle documents are up to date, i.e. safety inspection, emissions, no-fault, registration, insurance, etc.
- Tracks and gathers appropriate linen statistics monthly to determine service and efficiencies. This would include pounds per patient day by unit, misuse of linen reports and other related statistics.
- Assist manager in maintaining linen inventory budget by monitoring linen usage while tracking budgetary targets and staying within those targets. Input scrubs to maintain necessary par levels in designated areas.
- Adjusts linen par levels on the patient units as well as in the computer inventory system to improve service.
- Meets infection control standards by performing quarterly exchange cart cleaning and cart cover replacement.
- Monitors staff to assure areas dedicated to store or transport linen items are cleaned: shelves, cabinets, exchange carts and other areas designated for clean linen storage.
- Reviews and maintains department training manuals which includes policies and procedures.
- Maintains good communication and customer relations skills. Maintains positive teamwork and working relationships with employees and entities we provide linen services to.
- Assists manager in establishing linen warehouse storage facility linen and scrub par levels and to adjust as needed for hospital census.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to operate various vehicles such as courier vans, passenger vans or box trucks.
- Knowledge of safe patient transport practices, case management system and Quality Management initiatives.
- Knowledge of departmental and hospital safety, infection control and confidentiality policies.
- Knowledge of supply and distribution procedures.
- Assist manager with input on employee reviews and cover for the Manager in their absence to oversee the daily operations of the Transport and Linen Departments.
- Work with Manager in processing new employees for Driver Qualification Files and yearly review of those files.
- Schedule is generally Monday through Friday; 1st shift with every other weekend. Occasional overtime required. Flexibility to work weekends or second shift as needed.
Job Qualifications: UPDATED JUNE 2026
- Education: High School or equivalent required.
- Licensure/Certification: Valid driver’s license required. Must be able to provide proof of good driving record from state, required. Must be 18 years of age or older, required. Must be able to pass DOT physical, required.
- Experience: One (1) year of box truck and van driving, preferred. One (1) year of experience in Patient Transport duties, Courier service and Linen/inventory experience in a healthcare setting, preferred. Health care or customer service experience, preferred. Three (3) years of supervisory or team lead experience, strongly preferred.
- Skills: Reading and writing skills to understand and process inventory and control documents, required.
- Abilities: Ability to operate various vehicles such as courier vans, passenger vans or box trucks. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to interact with customers. Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or stress. Ability to transport self to and from off-site locations. Ability to accept constructive feedback and initiate appropriate actions to correct situations. Ability to proceed alone following standard practices for routine procedures, referring questions and problems to manager.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. Mon-Fri typically first shift, hours vary with some weekends and second shift coverage.
