Elliot Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy
The inpatient pharmacy department is comprised of pharmacists and technicians working collaboratively to provide safe, timely and effective medication therapy to our patients. We operate a decentralized model for both medication distribution utilizing Omnicell automation, as well as clinically with pharmacists dedicated to the teams on our nursing units. About The Job
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing and overseeing the technician duties within the inpatient and cancer center pharmacy departments at Elliot Hospital, focusing on the needs of our patients, clients, and staff. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising the work performed by the pharmacy technicians.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee the daily activities of the technician duties within the inpatient and cancer center pharmacy departments ensuring automation efficiencies supporting technician functions.
- Assist in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of policies, protocols and procedures affecting pharmacy operations.
- Collaborate with director of pharmacy, pharmacy manager – acute care, clinical coordinator, pharmacy systems analyst and medication safety officer to ensure efficiencies of department and to resolve problems and issues related to staff, as needed.
- Responsible for providing supervision over the work performed by pharmacy technicians. Interview, select and coach pharmacy technician candidates, conduct performance appraisals and document personnel performance counseling and disciplinary actions, as needed.
- Oversee the scheduling of personnel to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel. Oversee the orientation and training of new staff. Maintain documentation or orientation and training activities.
- Responsible for coordinating pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, including candidate selection, on-the-job training and collaboration with partners in Workforce Development and at Manchester Community College.
- Develop the skills and abilities of staff members to assist building a team atmosphere.
- Review medication event reporting and evaluate pharmacy technician process improvements.
- Coordinate pharmacy inventory management, in collaboration with the pharmacy purchasing agent. Coordinate and oversee activities of automation, IV lead, and resource technicians. Coordinate daily activities as it relates to operations between staff and other areas of the pharmacy and hospital.
- Perform the duties of a pharmacy technician when workload/staffing dictates and maintain current skills with staffing requirements.
What You’ll Need
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Advanced degree preferred. Certified Pharmacy Technician (National and NH) Required. Minimum of 5 years of pharmacy experience. An additional two in hospital pharmacy at a senior technician level preferred. Management experience preferred.
